Kurt Kren

Experimental filmmaker

Vienna (Austria), 1929-1998

Is considered a pioneer in the field of the structural cinematographic movement. At the beginning of the 50s, he began to work with experimental 8mm films and until 1957 he worked the 16mm with techniques of assembly in series. Mercilessly critical of the depressed social structure of the post-war period in Austria through his uncompromising artistic behaviour, he collaborated with the Viennese activists Otto Muehl and Günter Brus and managed to achieve the radicalisation of their aesthetic and existential positions. Kurt Kren is one of the few Austrian artists who has reached a state of international cult throughout his life.
