Juan Madrid
Teacher of the Theory of Scriptwriting at the International School of Cinema and Television of San Antonio de los Baños (Havana, Cuba) and at other schools and institutions, such as the Scriptwriters School of Valencia, the Fine Arts Circle in Madrid, the Catholic University of Puerto Rico and the University of Pau, France.
Juan Madrid is a graduate of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Salamanca (1972). As a journalist he has worked for the magazines Índice, Triunfo, Cambio 16 (1973-1993), and as a contributor and regular article writer for Diario 16 and El País (1993-1994) and El Mundo (1995). He is a television scriptwriter ("Brigada Central" series), as well as an author, and script reviser and advisor for several Spanish producers.
Between 1980 and 2003 he published 39 books, including novels, compilations of short stories, novels for young people and essays. Three of his books of have been made into films: Nada que hacer (1985), by Gerardo Herrero with the title Al Acecho; Días Contados (1993) by Imanol Uribe and Crónicas del Madrid oscuro (1994), by Mexican director Fernando Subiñana. His latest works are: Restos de carmín (1999), Amazonas, un viaje imposible (2001), Gente bastante extraña (2001), Grupo de noche (2003), El hijo de Sandokán (2003) and, as screenwriter and director, the film based on his novel Tánger (1997), produced by World Ficcion SL.
