Juan-Luis Arsuaga

Juan-Luis Arsuaga (Madrid, 1954) has a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and is now Professor of Palaeontology at this university, where he is also director of the Centre for Research for Human Evolution and Behaviour. Moreover, he is co-director of the Atapuerca Team, which was awarded the 1997 Prince of Asturias Prize for Technical and Scientific Research and the 1997 Castile and León Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities. In addition to several books, he has published articles in such prestigious scientific journals as Science and Nature and, in April 1993, he was co-author of a cover article in Nature on the discovery of the most complete human skull in the human fossil register (Homo heidelbergensis, Skull Atapuerca 5). He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, the International Scientific Committee of the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco, and the International Association for the Study of Human Palaeontology, and several other such entities. He is also editor-in-chief of the anthropological and archaeological review Munibe.
