Juan Cole
Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of Michigan.
(Albuquerque, United States, 1952). His research is focused on the Islamic world and its relations with the West. A regular commentator in influential television and radio programmes in the United States, he has written extensively on Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Southeast Asia, places where he has lived for long periods. Notable among his publications are Napoleon’s Egypt: Invading the Middle East (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007) and Engaging the Muslim World (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009), published in Spain as Un nuevo compromiso con el mundo islámico (Edicions Bellaterra, 2010).He has been editor of The International Journal of Middle East Studies and, since 2006, he has been president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America.
