Joel Smith
Curator of Photography at the Princeton University Art Museum.
He has organised exhibitions on the language of twentieth-century art, wit and humour in photography, and the transmission of visual motifs through art, and has also written monographic studies on the photographers Andreas Feininger and Fazal Sheikh. His publications include Edward Steichen: The Early Years (1999), Steinberg at The New Yorker (2005), and the catalogue of the retrospective exhibition Saul Steinberg: Illuminations (2006). He is presently researching the history of photographs of nothing for an exhibition scheduled to open in the Museum in 2014.
