Joan Roig i Duran

Architect, urban planner, and founding partner of Batlle i Roig Architecture studio

As a founding partner of the multidisciplinary Batlle i Roig Architecture studio, Joan Roig combines architecture, urban planning, and landscape design. Throughout his career, he has worked on numerous international projects that are highly committed to the environment and finding solutions for and ways to confront the climate emergency.

Since 1984 he has taught at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), in the master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and at the Barcelona School of Agricultural Engineering (ESAB). He has also taught at international universities, among many others the Academie van Boukunst in Rotterdam and the Delft University of Technology.

He has been director of BIArch (Barcelona Institute of Architecture) and has served on juries of national and international competitions, including the European Landscape Biennale. He has also published the book Nuevos Puentes (Gustavo Gili – in English New Bridges) as well as opinion pieces in such specialist journals as El Croquis, Topos, Quaderns, and Domus.
