Joan Font i Pujol

Joan Font is one of the Catalan directors with more international projection. He started in the world of theater through the representations of Els Pastorets and La Passió in his hometown, Olesa de Montserrat. From the very beginning he was interested in folklore and theatricality linked to the Catalan tradition, street shows and the scenic and expressive possibilities of masks. He is director-founder of the group Comediants since its beginnings in 1971, and direct promoter of the Centre de Creació de Comediants, La Vinya in Canet de Mar (Barcelona). With the company he has produced more than thirty shows, including Boccato di Cardinale, BI (Dos Móns - dues mirades), Maravillas de Cervantes, El llibre de les Bèsties and Dimonis. He has also been advisor and artistic director of numerous events such as the designation of Barcelona as an Olympic venue. In recent years he has directed the operas The Magic Flute (Gran Teatre del Liceu), Orfeo ed Eurídice (Festival de Peralada 2002), FAUST-BAL (Teatro Real de Madrid) or El Barbiere di Seviglia.
