Jennifer Burford

Filmmaker

Between 1979 and 1993, Jennifer Burford made over 20 films in which she drew on appropriation, parodied film genres, combined figurative and abstract images, looked at different ways of blurring gender identities in relation to the body, and explored the possibilities of text as image and double projection.

Burford has also developed her work in film through writing: in addition to her doctoral thesis on filmmaker Robert Breer, she worked with the French cooperative Light Cone since it was set up, on its catalogue and the magazine Scratch. In 1991, together with Martine Rousset, Marcelle Thirache, Frédérique Devaux, Vivian Ostrovsky and Françoise Thomas, she created the project Dissolution: Six Solutions, which disseminates films and celebrates the heterogeneous viewpoints of this generation of filmmakers.
