Jane Mansbridge

Political theorist specialized in democracy.

American political theorist, known for her studies of democratic theory, feminism and social movements. She is a Charles F. Adams Professor of Political Leadership and Democratic Values at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Her essay production includes Beyond Adversary Democracy (1980), Why We Lost the ERA (1986), Beyond Self-Interest (ed., 1990), Feminism: Scools of Thought in Politics (coed., 1994), Deliberative Systems (coed., 2012), Negotiating Agreement in Politics (coed., 2014), and Feminismo. Breve introducción a una ideología política (Página Indómita, 2020). She has served as president of the American Political Science Association (2012-2013) and has received, among other awards, the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science (2018) for "shaping our understanding of democracy in its direct and representative forms, with acuity, deep engagement, and feminist theory."
