Ira Katznelson

Ira Katznelson is Ruggles Professor of Political Science and History at Columbia University and President of the Social Science Research Council. With a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge, he has taught at the University of Chicago and the New School for Social Research. His main areas of research in comparative politics and political theory are inequality, racial conflict, social classes and the concept of citizenship in the liberal state, especially in the United States. He was president of the American Political Science Association in 2005 and 2006, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and also of the American Philosophical Society. He has written or co-authored numerous books, the most recent of which is Fear Itself: The New Deal and Origins of Our Time (Liveright Publishing, 2014), which was awarded the Bancroft Prize.
