Helen Hester
Feminist activist and leading light of the xenofeminist movement
Helen Hester (United Kingdom, 1983) is associate professor of media and communication at the University of West London. Her lines of research include digital technologies, reproductive policies and the future of work. Her books include Beyond explicit: Pornography and the Displacement of Sex (SUNY Press, 2014) and Fat Sex: New Directions in Theory and Activism (Routledge, 2015).
She is a member of the international feminist collective Laboria Cuboniks, formed by experts in different spheres of knowledge such as the visual arts, programming, philosophy, archaeology and design. The group published the manifesto Xenofeminism: A Politics for Alienation (2015), prior to the publication of Hester’s Xenofeminism (Polity, 2018), in which the author presents her view of xenofeminism, which refers to the desire to produce a feminism adapted to the current technological acceleration and opposed to the binary conception of gender
