Gaia Leandra

Investigator of scientific art

Gaia Leandra (Naples, 1990) is a scientific art researcher. She studied biological chemistry and physics at the University of Naples. At the end of her academic studies, she collaborated with the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) on research into Microelectronics and Genetics. One of her reasons for abandoning the academic field was due to the inconveniences generated by the privatisation of knowledge and the sexist hierarchy she found herself immersed in. Gaia believes that research and scientific results should be accessible to all, respecting the freedom of disclosure, known as open science.

She works with transfeminist and transdisciplinary laboratories in the art world, where she has collaborated with different projects such as Micromondo, Transmigration, Open Source Estrogen with Mary Maggic and Fotosintetik. Most of her time is dedicated to the creation of science labs/garages, however, she is also interested in Noise music.

She has developed synthesizers and pedals, has given workshops on electronics in collaboration with artists Corazón de Robota and Oskar Martín. She is one of the founders of the collective Merda Elettronica and collaborates in the organisation of independent music festivals such as Multiversal, Radio Black Out Noise, TPA and 76A Napolitan squatt. Gaia is a video game lover, a supporter of the Queer Games and creator of transfeminist video games.
