Francisco Rubia

Professor Francisco J. Rubia occupies a chair of Physiology at the Complutense University of Madrid and is vice-president of the Salzburg-based European Academy of Sciences and Art. He is a specialist in the physiology of the nervous system, a field in which he has worked for more than forty years.

Besides his academic activities in Madrid and Munich (Ludwig Maximilians University), he has been deputy-director of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, Director General of Research for the Autonomous Community of Madrid, a member of the executive committee of the European Medical Research Council, director of the Multidisciplinary Institute of Complutense University and a permanent member of the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain.

Notable among his recent works for the general public are the books ¿Qué sabes de tu cerebro? (What Do You Know about Your Brain? – Temas de Hoy, 2006) and El sexo del cerebro (The Sex of the Brain – Temas de Hoy, 2007).
