Fernando Sánchez Castillo

Fernando Sánchez Castillo was born in Madrid in 1970. He was a resident at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Aesthetics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is a member of the ENSBA post-diploma group, in Paris, and of the PIMPA research group of the Geneva University
of Art and Design. Contemporary history becomes reiterated material in many of his interventions. He considers this the practice of contemporary art, not as culture, but as a
critique of culture. His practices include approaches to historiography, journalism or the ambiguous relations between the powers and their propaganda. He has featured in collective exhibitions including: Abracadabra, Tate Modern, London; Fundación NMAC Montenmedio Arte Contemporáneo, Cadiz; The Real Royal Trip, P.S.1, MoMA, New York and the XXVI International Biennial of Sao Paulo. His individual exhibitions include: Abajo la inteligencia, MUSAC, León; Space of Resistance: Peace to the Man of Bad Will, Skissernas Museum, Lund, Sweden; Leder het zijne, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Rotterdam, Netherlands and OK Centrum Linz, Austria, and he is preparing an individual exhibition at the CA2M in Madrid.
