He’s not as bitter as his tragicomic fictional diary, explicitly called Diario de un amargado (Diary of a Bitter Man), might suggest. Montalbán writes about himself, but also about his twin daughters, evil little devils, his cruel but successful wife and his only friend, a mouse who’s a bit of a rat and doesn’t mince his words. But there’s more: vasectomies, tumours, tobacco (roll your own), strong alcohol, no sex at all and lots of dirty dishes waiting to be washed.
