Esperança Bielsa

PhD in Sociology from the University of Glasgow, she teaches sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Her research focuses on sociology, critical theory and translation studies. She is currently researching the social and political dimensions of translation and the theoretical and methodological implications of this research for sociology. Other areas of research have included cosmopolitanism, literature and popular culture. With her article "Cosmopolitanism and Translation" (Cultural Sociology, 2014), published by Routledge in 2016, she was the winner of the British Sociological Association's 2014 SAE Award for Innovation and Excellence. She is also the author of A Translational Sociology (Routledge, 2023) and The Latin American Urban Crónica (Lexington Books, 2006), in which she explores the relationship between high and low culture in Latin America and the consequences of current processes of globalization. He has recently edited The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Media (2022) and The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Globalization (with D. Kapsaskis, 2021), from Routledge, where he directs the Translation, Politics and Society collection.
