Donald Ray Pollock
Pollock was born in Knockemstiff, Ohio (USA) in 1954 and worked at a paper mill until he was 50. Then this working class hero gave up manual work to devote himself to writing and has since published Knockemstiff and The Devil All the Time. Continuing the Southern tradition of Harry Crews and Nelson Algren’s harsh, human narrative of life on the wild side, Pollock’s work describes the world of down-and-outs, delinquents, the lost and the forsaken. And he situates them in Ohio, the “only place I know really well”.
