Dipesh Chakrabarty

Professor of History, South Asian Languages and Civilizations and author of Humanism in an Age of Globalization (CCCB, 2008) and Provincializing Europe: Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference (Princeton University Press, 2000).

Professor of History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. He is one of the foremost thinkers in the field of post-colonial theory and critical reflection on modern-day Europe. His most important book on the subject is Provincializing Europe: Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference (2000). He is also the author of Habitations of Modernity (2002) and Cosmopolitanism (2002). In 2004 Chakrabarty was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
