Professor of African and Queer Studies. In The Calendar of Loss: Race, Sexuality, and Mourning in the Early Era of AIDS (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2015), he wrote about the role of collective grief in overcoming loss through the exploration of artistic works such as elegies and eulogies.
