Colin Barrett

Writer

Colin Barrett (County Mayo, 1982) is an incipient Irish author who is yet to have his Wikipedia page. But his youth, baby face, and Wikiabsence are totally deceptive. Barrett bore off the prestigious Guardian First Book Award in 2014 for his spectacular debut Young Skins. Published in Spanish by Sajalín (2016) with the title of Glanbeigh, this moving collection of harsh and beautiful short stories with its valiant description of bogged-down, violent lives in a semi-fictional Irish hell-hole of a village, has situated Barret in the marginal-worker tradition of Harry Crews, Donald Ray and Irvine Welsh.
