Christiane Chaulet-Achour
professor of Comparative and Francophone Literature at the Université de Cergy-Pontoise, and author of Albert Camus et l’Algérie (Albert Camus and Algeria, Barzakh, 2004)
Christiane Chaulet Achour (Algiers, 1946)
After working as a university teacher in Algiers from 1967 to 1994, she is currently Professor of Comparative and Francophone Literature at the Université de Cergy-Pontoise. A specialist in the French language – the place and function of the French language in the colonial and postcolonial periods, and literary writing in these contexts – she has published numerous studies on the literature of the Maghreb and of the Caribbean. Neither could she leave unexplored such a fascinating figure as Albert Camus, to whom she has devoted a number of studies, focusing essentially on the Algerian and Spanish connotations. She is also director of the “Féminin/Masculin” collection at Éditions Le Manuscrit (Paris). Her website offers free access to numerous studies (see: htpp//www.christianeachour.net/)
