Ashley Hans Scheirl

Filmmaker

Her early film work during the 1980s and 1990s contributed significantly to the development of conceptual art in Austria, being a combination of experimental filmic creations, actions in public spaces, performance, music and other forms of expression related to lesbian identity and sexuality as well as queer communities. In 1991 she made her best-known feature film together with her regular collaborators Ursula Pürrer and Dietmar Schipek. It's the futuristic dystopia Flaming Ears. Her migration into the field of painting was accompanied by a process of reflection and transition in terms of her gender identification. She currently lives and works in Vienna.
