Arcadi Navarro

Professor of Genetics and ICREA research professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). He is director of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and its research center, the Barcelonabeta Brain Research Center, both dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer's disease and other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. He also co-directs the European Genome-Phenome Archive. He has served science in different positions. Most recently, he was secretary of Universities and Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya between 2016 and 2018. In addition, he was vice-director of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE) from its foundation in 2008 until 2013. Between 2013 i 2016 he was director of Department of Medicine and Life Sciences at the UPF. Between 2008 and 2020 he was director of the Population Genomics Node of the National Institute of Bioinformatics (INB). He joined UPF in 2002, where he leads a research group on evolutionary genomics and evolutionary medicine, areas in which he has authored more than 200 publications, most of them using computational approaches, addressing topics ranging from chromosomal speciation or biodiversity to the biological roots of senescence, and how to better predict phenotypes from genomic data.
