Andrés Cardona

Photographer and documentary filmaker

Born in a rural Amazonian territory in the municipality of San Vicente del Caguán in Caquetá (Colombia), he is a National Geographic explorer, co-founder of the Mambe International Audiovisual Festival and part of the Vist Project Foundation's “Amazonías” project team.

His work, over 10 years as a photographer, is aimed at generating visual images that show the need for balance and the problems and possible solutions to current difficulties related to climate change in the Amazonian territory. His work has been featured in Time Magazine, Washington Post, The New York Times Lens Blog, Vogue Italia, Amnesty International, El País, Al Jazeera and The Guardian. In addition, he has received several recognitions, such as being selected as one of the most important emerging photographers in Latin America by the 6x6 Global Talent Program of World Press Photo (2019) and winning the Picture of Year Latam award (2023). He also received the W. Eugene Smith Fellowship (2020), the Pulitzer Center Rainforest Journalism Fund grant and the New Narratives on Drugs and Crime grant from the Gabo Foundation.
