Writer and journalist
In his career as a writer and journalist, he has worked with several genres, among them the novel, non-fiction, short stories, and young people’s literature, works for which he has received awards including the International Award for Excellence in Journalism for his Guardianes de la memoria (Guardians of Memory, Martínez Roca, 2008), the Jaén Prize for Young People’s Literature with his Ahora llega El silencio (Now Comes the Silence, Montena, 2019), and the Enerclub Pprize for a report he published in the “Magazine” of El Mundo. Other notable works are La calle de los suicidios (The Street of the Suicides, Círculo de Lectores, 2000), Mimodrama de una ciudad muerta (Mimodrama of a Dead City, Siruela, 2004), and Los bosques de Upsala (The Forests of Uppsala, Alfaguara, 2009), three stand-alone novels that form a trilogy contemplating suicide from different perspectives. His non-fictional study Se alquila una mujer (Woman for Hire, MR, 2002), about the phenomenon of prostitution in Spain, is one of his many other titles. He also writes for the media outlets El Mundo, La Vanguardia, and Cadena Ser, among others.
