Alicia Fuentes Vega

Alicia Fuentes Vega is a lecturer and researcher in the History of Art Department at the Complutense University of Madrid. Her main area of research is issues related with cultural imaginaries and narratives from the perspective of visual studies. Her PhD thesis on tourist imaginaries of Spain during the Franco dictatorship (winner of the 2015 Extraordinary Doctoral Award) resulted in the book Bienvenido, Mr. Turismo. Cultura visual del boom en España (Welcome Mr. Tourism: Visual Culture of the Boom in Spain, Cátedra, 2017). After several research visits to institutions including the Freie Universität in Berlin, Birkbeck University in London, and the University of California-Berkeley, she joined the Complutense University with the Community of Madrid’s Talent Attraction Programme, where she is presently codirector of the IMAGINARIOS research group, as well as coordinating the Master’s in History of Contemporary Art and Visual (UCM / UAM / Reina Sofía Museum), and acting as secretary of the scientific committee of the “Arte(s)” Collection of Ediciones Complutense.
