Alberto Cairo is responsible for the orthopaedic program of the international Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan, which is helping mainly the victims of the antipersonnel mines or other explosive devices. He works in Afghanistan permanently since 1989; he is thus one of the few foreigners who have been there during all the phases of the afghan war, which provides him with a global vision of the recent history of Afghanistan. He has a close relationship with the afghan war victims. Italian born, he speaks dari –one of the official tongues in Afghanistan- and is lawyer and physiotherapist.
