Alain Touraine

Alain Touraine (1925-2023) was a sociologist and had been Director of Studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris) since 1960. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris) and at the universities of Harvard, Columbia, and Chicago. His research primarily centered on social movements in post-industrial societies. His works included A New Paradigm for Understanding Today's World (2007), Beyond Neo-Liberalism (2001), What is Democracy? (1997), and Critique of Modernity (1995).
