Akuol de Mabior
Filmmaker
A filmmaker born in Cuba, Akuol de Mabior lived in exile in Kenya for many years until she could finally settle in South Sudan, the homeland of her family. After she made several shorts, her feature film, the documentary No Simple Way Home (2022), was presented as the first South Sudanese production to be premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, after which she received international awards including the Doc.Horizonte Prize at the Doc.fest München, and the Best Feature Film Award at the 2024 Film Femmes Afrique festival in Dakar. Her most recent short, On the White Nile (2021), received the Gold award at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards.
