The playwright Wajdi Mouawad and director Oriol Broggi speak about theatre as an experience of healing and emancipation in a society where violence is present every day.
Wajdi Mouawad is one of the most prominent playwrights of our time. Exiled because of the Lebanese civil war, he brings universal conflicts to the forefront in his work such as the legacy of war and violence, displacement, and the quest for one’s own identity. Mouawad’s timeless perspective invites us to reflect upon the lights and shadows of the human condition and the wounds we inherit. At the same time, his pieces also show how art can be a space for healing, a language that can ignite in us the hope for a better humanity.
In this session moderated by cultural journalist Laura Serra, Wajdi Mouawad discusses with director and playwright Oriol Broggi, who with his company LaPerla29 has adapted many of his texts into Catalan, the most recent one to hit the stage being Tots Ocells (Birds of a Kind, 2024).
