This session brings together outstanding Palestinian artists, journalists and writers to discuss the current humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
In the weeks since Hamas’s 7 October attacks on southern Israel, 2.3 million Palestinians who are unable to leave the Gaza Strip have been subject by the Israeli army to one of the most devastating aerial bombardments since the Second World War. More than two thirds of the population have been displaced and, to date, 17,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have died or have disappeared under the rubble of their homes.
The event will begin with a screening of the short film Memory of the Land, by Samira Badran, a Palestinian visual artist who has settled in Barcelona. This will be followed by a round table on the situation in Gaza with translator and editor Mohamad Bitari, activist and journalist Asmaa al-Ghoul, who is currently exiled in France, and Mariam Barghouti, an independent journalist who will connect live from Ramallah. The session will be moderated by journalist and writer Ben Ehrenreich.
This session is coorganised by the CCCB, the Tàpies Foundation, Catalan PEN, the International Catalan Institute for Peace and the European Institute of the Mediterranean.
