The New World Disorder

Lecture by Pankaj Mishra

Debate

Capitalism faces a worldwide crisis, nation-states implode, and the map of the world is being redrawn nearly every week. This is was not the new world order promised by the United States and its allies after the defeat of Communism, in 1989. History itself seemed to have ended in 1989, in liberal democracy and capitalism which were expected to jointly reign across the world, and lift billions of people out of poverty and oppression into regimes guaranteeing prosperity and individual rights. But this may have been a bigger illusion than the promise of revolutionary communism. How do we see the new world disorder, its roots and causes?
