A Poetry Slam is half poetry and half performance, a poetic contest with a lively, dynamic, participatory format that creates a new relation between the public and the poets.
Barcelona Poetry Slam is a platform for contemporary artistic creation centring on the word. The project places the word and the stage at the centre of a new cultural offer, using the slam and the spoken word as resources for developing expressive and communication skills in a performance space—a social network of creators/poets who see the use of language and, specifically, the poetry slam, as a way to develop creativity and the focus of a space of social relation and exchange.
The regular slam championship has been held since February 2010 and has hundreds of followers, poets and public, who meet every month to compete, share and applaud the slammers’ performances.
