Marina Garcés, Raül Garrigasait, Ingrid Guardiola and Anna Punsoda in Conversation
Three Looks at Freedom
Debate
In this session, Marina Garcés, Raül Garrigasait, and Ingrid Guardiola discuss the idea of freedom from the standpoint of the present complex situation. The conversation will be moderated by Anna Punsoda.
Breaking free from a tyrant, retreating from the hubbub and banality of the world, making oneself, and being able to express oneself without restraint: “freedom” has meant a wide range of things over history. Today, after a year of pandemic and against a background of great political and social uncertainty, the idea of freedom is once again being read through many different lenses. From measures controlling the population during confinement, or an increased daily presence of the digital technologies, through to the recent demonstrations in the streets calling for freedom of expression, the debate about the meaning of freedom is once again more relevant than ever. How does one talk about this idea amid such turmoil? What are the old and new meanings that give sense to the word?
This event is organised by the CCCB and the Ramon Llull Institute as part of the latter’s project to promote Catalan contemporary thought internationally, and to bring it into relationship with the global scene.
Moderators: Anna Punsoda
Participants: Marina Garcés, Raül Garrigasait, Ingrid Guardiola
