CUT ONE'S TEETH

Scene

Dancer and choreographer Mabel Olea presents CUT ONE’S TEETH, a performative work that questions contemporary beauty standards and proclaims the power of the body in the digital age.

CUT ONE’S TEETH is a performative work that explores Mabel Olea’s journey of personal and artistic transformation, based on the metaphor of a diamond in the rough that becomes a polished diamond. Inspired by the English idiom “to cut one’s teeth”, meaning to learn and acquire experience from scratch, the artist creates a visual and corporal narrative that unites Western concepts of perfection and beauty with various cultural references.

The performance combines elements of classical sculpture, Balanchine’s ballet and anime aesthetic to create a body-jewel that transforms before the public.

With its surrealist and dadaist structure, CUT ONE’S TEETH is a journey into the unconscious, where the body becomes a radical, divine piece of art.
