Crimes against Humanity: In the Shadow of Auschwitz

Lecture by Donatella Di Cesare

Debate

On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day the philosopher Donatella di Cesare will call for the need to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive in her lecture about prevention of crimes against humanity.

People often talk about “crimes against humanity”, a term that is sometimes used abstractly although it has very specific origins, namely with the Holocaust. Donatella Di Cesare, who has made a valuable contribution in the field of Holocaust studies, sheds light on the fact that, contrary to the general belief, the Holocaust is not a finished, closed chapter in human history but, rather, we are still living in the shadow of Auschwitz because, once introduced into history, monstrous events can be repeated.

The event will be presented by Angelo Gioè, director of the Institute of Italian Culture of Barcelona.
