Technology and economy for the energy transition
Debate
The physicist Beatriz Roldán and the economist Mar Reguant reflect on how to accelerate the decarbonization of the global economy.
Although it is an extremely urgent challenge for the sustainability of the planet, the energy transition is not advancing at the pace it should. We are progressing towards more efficient solar panels, and cleaner, faster, and higher-capacity batteries, but we are still far from decarbonising heavy industries like metallurgy. How can technology help? What role does the economy play? Beatriz Roldán, expert in nanomaterials, and Mar Reguant, climate economics researcher, review the current state of research on advanced materials and analyse the main economic and social factors of the energy crisis. The journalist Elisenda Pallarés will moderate the discussion.
