Scene + Music
1 November, 6 p.m.
To mark the centenary of the death of Isaac Albéniz, we present the concert Poèmes d’amour, based on texts by the Symbolist poet Armand Sylvestre, a very little-known work premiered in 1892 by the actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Margarida Aguyé will be bringing these poems to us. The remainder of this first programme is made up of works by Claude Debussy (L’après-midi d’un faune with Arnold Schoenberg’s arrangement), another famous contemporary, Enric Granados (Elisenda, based on poems by Apel•les Mestres), and the man who taught them both, Felip Pedrell (Cant del matí).
29 November, 6 p.m.
A coming-together of composers who played a major role in Catalan musical life in the second half of the 20th century. The works performed include Antoni Massana’s Andantino and Cançó de Bressol, probably for the first time in a modern version; Enric Morera’s Melangia and Dansa; Ricard Lamote de Grignon’s Tres cants magiars; and, finally, Aureli Vila’s arrangement for string orchestra of Sis cançons by Eduard Toldrà. The soloist will be soprano Assumpta Mateu, who recently recorded the complete works for voice and piano by the maestro from Vilanova.
