Writer and editor, he became famous in 1994 with his novel In the Hold, which won the prestigious NIN Prize for the best novel of the year in Yugoslavia and was translated into a score of languages. The book is based on the consequences of war in the former Yugoslavia, and is the start of the Cloaca máxima tetralogy, whose second part was published in 1997 under the title of Andjela. He has also published Mexico. Ratni dnevnik (2000, Mexico. The War Diary) and Ishmail, an illustrated novel produced together with drawer Aleksandar Zograf.
He lives in Belgrade, where he works as editor in charge of the Rende publishing company.
