Miriam Reyes

(Orense, Spain, 1974)

After studying Literature at the Universidad Central in Venezuela she taught Spanish Language and Literature until she decided to leave Venezuela in 1996. She has lived in Spain since 2000.

In the spring of 2001 she published her first collection of poems, Espejo negro [Black Mirror], which appeared in a bilingual Spanish-Italian edition as Terra e sangue in 2003. Her second book of poems, Bella durmiente [Sleeping Beauty] (2004), was a finalist in the 19th Hiperión poetry prize. Her poems have been anthologized on several occasions: Feroces. Radicales marginales y heterodoxos en la última poesía española (1998), Mujeres de carne y verso. Antología poética femenina en lengua española del siglo XX (2001), Poetas en tiempo de guerra (2003), Ilimitada voz. Antología de poetas españolas (1940-2002), published in 2003, and 25 poetas españoles jóvenes (2003). She has twice been a finalist in the Tívoli Europa prize, in 1998 and 2002.

Takes part in
