Michael Kazin

Professor of History at Georgetown University.

Professor of Modern History at Georgetown University and co-editor, with Michael Walzer, of the prestigious American review of progressive intellectual thought Dissent, he writes mainly about the history of politics and social movements in the United States, with a particular focus on populism. He is a regular columnist for The New Republic On-Line and a frequent contributor to The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications. His books include American Dreamers: How the Left Changed a Nation (forthcoming August 2011); The Populist Persuasion: An American History; and – co-authored with Maurice Isserman – America Divided: The Civil War of the 1960s, which is now in its fourth edition. He also edited (with Joseph McCartin) In Search of Progressive America, Americanism: New Perspectives on the History of an Ideal and The Princeton Encyclopedia of American Political History.
