Joan Nogué

is Professor of Human Geography at the University of Girona and Director of the Observatori del Paisatge de Catalunya (Landscape Observatory of Catalonia). He has been an associate professor at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and visiting lecturer at other universities in several countries. He specialises in cultural landscape studies and geographical and territorial thought, subjects on which he has written a considerable number of books and articles in international reviews. Notable among his books are Nacionalismo y territorio (Nationalism and Territory, Milenio, 1998); España en Marruecos (1912-1956). Discursos geográficos e intervención territorial (Spain in Morocco (1912 – 1956): Geographic Discourse and Territorial Intervention, Milenio, 1999), which he co-authored with José Luis Villanova; Geopolítica, identidad y globalización (Geopolitics, Identity and Globalisation, Ariel, 2001), co-authored with Joan Vicente; Las “otras” geografías (The “Other” Geographies, Tirant lo Blanch, 2006), co-authored with Joan Romero; La construcción social del paisaje (The Social Construction of Landscape, Biblioteca Nueva, 2007); El paisaje en la cultura contemporánea (Landscape in Contemporary Culture, Biblioteca Nueva, 2008); Una mirada catalana a l’Àfrica. Viatgers i viatgeres dels segles XIX i XX (Africa through Catalan Eyes: Men and Women Travellers in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Pagès, 2008), co-authored with Maria Dolors Garcia Ramon and Perla Zusman); and Entre paisajes (Between Landscapes, Àmbit, 2009). He also writes on a regular basis for the “Cultura/s” supplement of the daily La Vanguardia. He was awarded the “Rei Jaume I” (King James I) Prize for Urban Planning, Landscape and Sustainability in 2009, and the Joan Fuster Essay Prize for his book Paisatge, territori i societat civil (Landscape, Territory and Civil Society, 3i4 Edicions, 2010).

Takes part in
