Javier Martínez-Picado

ICREA research lecturer at the IrsiCaixa Institute for AIDS Research, Barcelona, and associate lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona

He obtained a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Barcelona, where he has also taught. In 1996 he went to work at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA, as a Harvard University postdoctoral research fellow. It was here that he started to engage in AIDS research. After returning to Barcelona in 2000 he began working as a biomedical researcher for the Ministry of Health at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital. His main scientific interest is pathogenesis of the AIDS virus and possible strategies in immunotherapy and chemotherapy to combat the disease. Dr Martínez-Picado is a member of several scientific and academic committees and he publishes regularly in international scientific journals.
