Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Barcelona.

With a degree (1972) and PhD (1976) in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona, specialising in biochemistry, he has been a lecturer at this university since 1974. In 1991 he was appointed to the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Barcelona. His field of research is molecular neurobiology and theoretical biochemistry where he has specialised in the biochemistry of nutrition. He has published numerous scientific articles on this subject and has also been a consultant to different enterprises and institutions. Since March 2007 he has been head of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Barcelona. He has held a range of administrative posts at the university besides working in different positions and as a consultant for the governments of Catalonia and Spain in the area of university policy.
