Roger Chartier. New Partial Magic in the Quixote

Reflections on Readers and Readings (17th-21st centuries)

It focus especially on the invention of the modern reader in the times of the Quixote and analyses the different reading revolutions that transformed ways of reading in the 18th century, the composition of the reading public in the 19th century, and the format of what was written in the 20th century.
