Errol Morris

In his last film, Errol Morris investigates the origin and dissemination of the photographs taken in Abu Ghraib: his aim is to analyse how the photos of the prisoners show events conceived for staging by the soldiers, and how they come together in a digital chain of photos in a complex series of images. On the one side, Morris observes the ambiguous use and sedimentation of these photos as icons of the invasion of Iraq, and on the other, the true signs that have been hidden: the experiences and conflicts of the characters, the original setting, the chronological development of the facts. A hypnotic, fascinating film on the truth and the manipulations of the photos of Abu Ghraib, which becomes a reflection of the world of digital images. Awarded with the Special Jury Prize in the Berlin Festival.
