BARRIBROSSA 09. POETRY OF THE STAGE

Remembering Joan Brossa

In these four sessions, stage directors who have directed works by Joan Brossa reflect publicly on the experience to mark the tenth anniversary of the poet's death as part of a commemorative tribute.
The works under discussion are: OLGA SOLAAL CANIGÓ JA NO HI HA ÀGUILESAQUÍ AL BOSCLA SORRA I L'ACADÈMIA

A crossroads of reflections and sensations. Umbilical cords that go a long way back. Brossa, however, said that "finding a perfect bed is only possible with creators who, on the outside, have mastered the past, and on the inside, are eager for contrasts, which allows them to partake of every climate without letting the water become stagnant". Just as every rebellion produces an academy, every school kills its master. Is the work of Joan Brossa post theatre, or irregular theatre? It is certainly poetry of the stage that ranges the territories of metapoetry and antipoetry, stage poetry that distils the synthesis of a creator who, like the great classics of our avant-garde movements, exudes immersion in the visual arts, music, film and the LIVING WORD. Four stage directors speak to us of their experience of staging a work by Brossa, and of the languages of performance, scenography, space, light and music they explored when directing Brossa's work for the theatre.
