Apaga y vámonos (“Switch Off and Go”)

2005, 87'. Directed by Manel MayolDocumentary on the construction of the Ralco hydroelectric power station at the Bío Bío river by Endesa, and the consequences for the inhabitants of the area.

 

A portrait of the conflict between the Mapuche-Pehuenche people and the Spanish multinational firm ENDESA, one of the world's largest CO2 emitters. More than ten years ago, ENDESA built the Ralco hydroelectric power station on the River Bío Bío (Chile), breaching indigenous law and forcing local people to leave their homes. Apaga y vámonos has been shown at more than 49 international festivals, winning prizes and special mentions in the best film category. It was first shown in Chile on 1 August.
