Robert Gerwarth

Professor of European History at University College Dublin, he also is director of its Centre for War Studies. A graduate of the Humboldt University of Berlin and with a PhD from the University of Oxford, he has carried out research and taught in the universities of Oxford, Princeton and Harvard. Notable among his books are Hitler’s Hangman: The Life of Heydrich (Yale University Press, 2011) and The Vanquished: Why the First World War Failed to End, 1917–1923 (Allen Lane, 2016), which has been published in Spanish as Los vencidos. Por qué la Primera Guerra Mundial no concluyó del todo (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2017). In both these books he reconsiders key aspects of the historiography of the period of the two world wars.
