Pura Muñoz

Pura Muñoz has a doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Valencia. After working as a researcher at the University of California (San Diego) and at The Scripps Research Institute (Florida), she joined the staff of the Barcelona Centre for Genomic Regulation, where she headed her own research group from 2002 to 2008. She is presently an ICREA research professor and Professor of Cellular Biology at the Pompeu Fabra University. Pura Muñoz is an expert in the field of cellular ageing, her work being based on the processes of regeneration and growth in muscle tissue and their impact in diseases causing neuromuscular disorders (like Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) or loss of muscle mass (as in cancer), or ageing itself. She has written and published widely on all these questions. Her research group has been awarded the title of Group of Excellence by the Generalitat (Government of Catalonia).
